Legendary Northern Ireland Goalkeeper Pat Jennings OBE has received a further honour, a CBE in the New Years Honours list. Hailed as one of the all-time best Goalkeepers in the World, Pat Jennings’s received his honour as a Commander of the British Empire for his contribution to Football and Charity work.

During his brilliant career as a topflight goalkeeper Pat played for Watford, Tottenham and Arsenal and won 119 international caps for Northern Ireland playing in 2 World Cups. Following his playing career, Pat has stayed involved with football in a coaching role at Spurs while also being involved in supporting grassroots football with the Irish Football association (IFA). He has also worked tirelessly in cross community projects in Northern Ireland as well as other charity work across GB and Ireland. In particular, since its’ inception Pat has been closely associated with Co-Operation Ireland, an all-island peace building organisation. This year he successfully completed his 28th annual Golf Classic raising millions of pounds in the process during that time.

Adrian Toner, Chairman of the Friends of Big Pat Ltd, (an organisation formed in early 2022 to fund and erect a statue of Pat to be placed in Pat’s home city of Newry), stated; “We as a group are delighted that Pat has been honoured with a CBE. Pat’s charity work is recognised and very much appreciated across Northern Ireland and beyond. We are delighted that his status is being recognised in such a fitting way. His natural ability as a world class goalkeeper has long been accepted but it’s nice that the work that he has done to bring communities closer together in Northern Ireland is being acknowledged and appreciated. We look forward to inviting Pat home to the unveiling of a statue, in Autumn 2023, in recognition of his wonderful civic contribution in the North and in particular in his home city of Newry. Presently, we are in fundraising mode to ensure that we make this happen and I would appeal to everyone to check out our donate page at friendsofbigpat.com. Our congratulations once again to our friend and true gentleman Pat Jennings!”
